High School Workshop
Organized by the Information and Education Committee
As part of ASHG’s genetics education outreach, every year’s Annual Meeting includes a full-day workshop for local high school students and their teachers. Participants interact with genetics researchers and learn about the field of human genetics. Students will
enjoy inquiry-oriented genetics lessons, including a DNA extraction, and learn about the inheritance of taste and smell. Distinguished speakers will present on a variety of topics including cancer genetics, newborn screening, personalized genome analysis, and speciation in island habitats.
